What is HypnoBirthing

HypnoBirthing® is a method of childbirth, which is much a philosophy of birth as it is a technique for achieving a satisfying, relaxing and stress free birth.  The mother-to-be and her birth companion join our education programme during her pregnancy to learn the techniques we teach so that she can experience a pleasant and unique labour.  Many mothers have even said that as well as feeling relaxed, they have also experienced a pain free labour.

It has returned to women their right to call upon their natural birthing instincts, creating one of the most memorable experiences of their lives.

Teaching techniques for safe and more comfortable birthing through guided imagery, visualisation and special breathing.

The HypnoBirthing® programme was developed in 1989 by Marie Mongan in the USA.  It is based on the work of English obstetrician Dr. Grantly Dick-Read.

Hypnosis is a natural state, neither awake nor asleep, It manifests an extremely pleasant state of relaxation.  It is described as an altered state of awareness, which allows the unconscious mind to accept beneficial suggestions.  It is a natural way to get in touch with the subconscious mind where many of our problems as well as our inner strengths and potential lies.

When having your baby with HypnoBirthing® what you will experience is similar to the daydreaming or focusing that occurs when you are engrossed in a book or staring at a fire.  You will be conversant and in good spirits—totally relaxed but fully in control.  You will be aware of your body’s contractions but will be able to determine the extent to which you feel the surge.  You will experience your birthing in an atmosphere of calm and relaxation, with fear and tension that cause pain.  Your body’s natural relaxant (endorphins) will replace the stress hormones that create pain.

When it is time for your baby to be born you will be fully awake and involved.

About Me

I am a clinical hypnotherapist, HypnoBirthing practitioner and EFT practitioner.  After a mid life career change from a very stressful job to hypnotherapist, I eventually conceived twins and it was during my pregnancy that I decided that it would be lovely to specialise in birth.  I used hypnotherapy all through my pregnancy and I always maintain that it is because of this that my boys have been happy, contended babies and boys who have always slept well and eaten well.  So in 2003 I trained as a HypnoBirthing practitioner and was one of the first practitioners in the UK.  I love teaching HypnoBirthing and I am still as passionate about it now as I was when I first trained.
